ORIENT AND OCCIDENT

European and oriental music for Alta Capella and percussion

Gesine Bänfer, Ian Harrison - Shawms and bagpipes
David Yacus, Christia Braun - Buisines
Michael Metzler, Andrea Piccioni - Percussion

Les haulz et les bas bridges the Bosphorus and brings Western European monophonic and polyphonic music face to face with its roots in the East. The compositions of Francesco Landini, Guillaume de Machaut and others and the orientally-inspired 14th-century Italian Istanpittas meet music from the oldest Ottoman sources, the manuscipts of Ali Ufki and Dimitrie Kantemir.
